In regards to Feruki's recent post... it inspired me to watch this opening title sequence from Alfred Hitchcock's 1959 suspence film "North by Northwest" Love the design to it and was commenting to Feruki that we almost decided to go this route for the 2nd Uprise video title sequence. Even had the building picked out to do the motion graphics on.

But really gets me is the graphic designer Saul Bass did this all in camera Long before After Effects.

So yesterday upon arriving back to work after lunch. I noticed all the bike racks were filled up with bikes, as well as all the street signs nearby. Of course they would be, it was a spactacular day in Chicago. 80 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. So I decided to lock my bike up to a nearby planter with metal guard rails. No big deal right? i did this many of times at other buildings throughout the city. Well at 5:00 pm I come outside only to find this...

If I could of read the sign instructing me not to lock my bike up there, then I wouldnt have. C'mon Im not that big of an idiot.

Moral of the story is be careful where you lock your bike. There is meatheads with power saws everywhere. I just feel bad for the nice lady that had her really nice Specialized Road bike locked up there too. She got 2 locks cut. Man was she screaming when I came out.

Saturday a few of us decided to ride to Gary Indiana, Yep, birthplace of the Jackson 5. However... we did not make it all the way due to rugged terrain. But we did 25 miles to the border, Just beneath the Chicago Skyway. (50 miles roundtrip) I could smell Gary from there, and I think I was fine with that. Here are some pics

Medium Cool (1969) is a film directed by Haskell Wexler and starring Robert Forster, Verna Bloom, Peter Bonerz, Marianna Hill and Harold Blankenship. It takes place in Chicago in the summer of 1968.
John Cassellis (Robert Forster) is a television news cameraman. In one of the opening scenes, a group of cameramen and journalists are discussing the ethical responsibilities within their profession: When should filming a gruesome scene end and human responsibility to try to save a life begin? As viewers we are presented with issues such as violence as spectacle, political and social discontent, extreme racism, and class divisions. The film is constantly juggling actual footage with feature film image. Wexler uses footage from military training camps in Illinois who are preparing for potential riots and demonstrations from students during the Democratic National Convention later that summer.

Facts About Friday the 13th

If Friday the 13th is unlucky, then 2009 is an unusually unlucky year. This week's Friday the 13th is one of three to endure this year.
The first came last month. The next is in November. Such a rare triple-threat occurs only once every 11 years.
The origin of the link between bad luck and Friday the 13th is murky. The whole thing might date to Biblical times (the 13th guest at the Last Supper betrayed Jesus). By the Middle Ages, both Friday and 13 were considered bearers of bad fortune. In modern times, the superstition permeates society.
Here are five of our favorite Friday-the-13th facts:
1. Fear of Friday the 13th - one of the most popular myths in science - is called paraskavedekatriaphobia as well as friggatriskaidekaphobia. Triskaidekaphobia is fear of the number 13.
2. Many hospitals have no room 13, while some tall buildings skip the 13th floor and some airline terminals omit Gate 13.
3. President Franklin D. Roosevelt would not travel on the 13th day of any month and would never host 13 guests at a meal. Napoleon and President Herbert Hoover were also triskaidekaphobic, with an abnormal fear of the number 13.
4. Mark Twain once was the 13th guest at a dinner party. A friend warned him not to go. "It was bad luck," Twain later told the friend. "They only had food for 12." Superstitious diners in Paris can hire a quatorzieme, or professional 14th guest.
5. Meanwhile the belief that numbers are connected to life and physical things - called numerology - has a long history.
"You can trace it all the way from the followers of Pythagoras, whose maxim to describe the universe was 'all is number,'" says Mario Livio, an astrophysicist and author of "The Equation That Couldn't Be Solved" (Simon & Schuster, 2005). Thinkers who studied under the famous Greek mathematician combined numbers in different ways to explain everything around them, Livio said.
In modern times, numerology has become a type of para-science, much like the meaningless predictions of astrology, scientists say.
"People are subconsciously drawn towards specific numbers because they know that they need the experiences, attributes or lessons associated with them, that are contained within their potential," says professional numerologist Sonia Ducie. However, mathematicians dismiss numerology, saying it lacks any scientific merit.
"I don't endorse this at all," Livio said, when asked to comment on the popularity of commercial numerology. Seemingly coincidental connections between numbers will always appear if you look hard enough, he said.
